Morning Work: Copying a sentence from the board; correcting mistakes. Focus: spelling errors and dialog.
Geography is part of morning work. We have a new map every week. You can find this week's focus on the Geography Page. This week's focus is about the United States of America.
Religion: Chapter 8: Jesus Teaches Us to Pray to God Our Father
Superkids: /le/ spelling pattern. See the Spelling tab for this week's word list. Superkids includes reading comprehension, fluency, spelling, penmanship, and grammar.
Mondays we have Spelling Pre-Tests, and we have re-takes on Fridays for those who did not achieve an A the first time. You can find the Spelling Words for the week here. Children will have Spelling Homework every night. Please check the planner, sign off in your child's assignments, and help them take responsibility for putting it back into their BLUE folder to turn in.
You should make verbal spelling practice a daily habit at home to strengthen your child's spelling skills. You can also give them practice spelling tests, which I have found very helpful.
Anything Superkids related can be found either on the Superkids Online Fun app your child uses daily, or you can look at the Parent Portal you set up at the start of the year.
Math: Adding using patterns; addition strategies, and fun Halloween-related things. Please check the planner, sign off in your child's assignments, and help them take responsibility for putting it back into their BLUE folder to turn in.
Science: Parts of a Seed, Parts of Plants
A few words about gradebook procedures ...
Reading comprehension is practiced in everything we read. However, your child's "Reading" grade is strictly a comprehension assessment through our AR program. Your kids are tested on the library books they bring home. If you have any questions about my AR procedures, please let me know.
Penmanship is mostly a DOL grade, as well as in-class interactive notebook/Center work. DOL is directly taken from our Superkids work. We are also starting use of a handwriting workbook, so we can firm up our letter formation skills.
Grammar is phonics and phonemic awareness. These grades come from the Superkids Workbook. The workbooks stay in school, but you can check your child's grade at any time using your PowerSchool username and password. Need your password? Please contact the office!
Spelling consists of the end-of-week tests, as well as any and all spelling homework and in-class worksheets.
I do not give written homework on weekends, but your child is expected to read their Library book every day. I recommend 2-3 AR tests per week.
Your child can also complete i-ready lessons at home. I recommend1 lesson of math and 1 lesson of reading per day. If your child wishes to work on i-Ready at home, please allow them to work independently. The system meets them where they are, and each child has their own tailored learning path. Want to see what your child has been doing on i-Ready? Click on My Progress once they have logged in to see their recent completed lessons!
