This is a frontier town. A frontier town means a town that was built when towns first started being formed. This map shows a town from long ago. What was life like 150 years ago? The Sheriff was the local police officer. He usually had a deputy - a partner. The Blacksmith was the person who created things from metal. This could include horse shoes, pots and pans, or tools. You see a bank and a hotel, things that you know the names of today. The General Store was where you could buy things you could not make or grow on your farm. Farmers traded for goods here sometimes as well. The Pony Express was how mail and messages were delivered. Men rode horses carrying bags of mail down a route. They would trade bags with the next guy, and bring mail back to his own town.
